One of the Fathers of the Modern Pan African Movement, Former Ghanaian First President Kwame Nkrumah echoed these sentiments on the Need for Africa to Unite:

“The Forces that Unite us are intrinsic and greater then the Superimposed influences that keep us apart.” Kwame Nkrumah -Africa Must Unite 1963

“Africa is One Continent,One People and One Nation.” Kwame Nkrumah, 1970

“It is clear that we must Find an African Solution to Our Problems and that this can be found in African Unity. Divide We are Weak; United, Africa could become One of the Greatest Forces for good in the World.” Kwame Nkrumah

“It is in Our Hands to join Our Strength, taking Sustenance from our Diversity, Honouring Our Rich and Varied Traditions and Culture but acting Together for the Protection and Benefit of Us All.”

The need for African Unity takes greater importance as the continent celebrates 59 since the African Union was charged with the responsibility of pursuing African Unity. Many believe that we are more divided than United. It is true we are more divided than United but Our little efforts towards African Unity shall yield the Desired Results. Truly the Forces that Unite us are Intrinsic and Greater than what separates Us. Separated on account of the Imperialists making and desire to preside over our territories but What should Re-Unite Us is our Rich and Varied Traditions and Culture through Honouring and Cherishing our Diversity.
As Patrice Lumumba echoed “African Unity and Solidarity are no longer Dreams. They must be expressed in our Decisions.”
