Mali’s military government has issued a temporary ban on broadcasts by Radio France International (RFI) and France 24, accusing the broadcasters of disseminating false information on the Malian army and on alleged human rights abuses.
The online platforms of the two broadcasters, which broadcast in French and are partly financed by the French state, were also shut down.
The military government accused the broadcasters of attempting to destabilize the country and discredit the military, which seized power in the West African nation of some 20 million inhabitants in May last year.
